Main synthesis pathway:
Using decanoic acid and methanol as raw materials: This is the most direct esterification route. n-decanoic acid (CAS: 334-48-5) reacts with methanol (CAS: 67-56-1) under acidic catalyst (such as concentrated sulfuric acid) to produce methyl decanoate and water.
Using decanoyl chloride as raw material: decanoyl chloride (CAS: 112-13-0) reacts with methanol to efficiently generate methyl decanoate. This method has mild reaction conditions and high yield.
Starting from 1-decanol: 1-decanol (CAS: 112-30-1) can be converted to decanoic acid through oxidation reaction and then esterified; Or directly perform ester exchange with methanol under specific catalysts.
Other approaches include using 1,1-dimethoxydecane (CAS: 7779-41-1) as a precursor, or synthesizing through green chemistry methods such as biocatalysis.
